1. INTRODUCTION

    The Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Training School is a joint venture project of the Diamond Foundation of South Africa in partnership with De Beers.

    The Master Diamond Cutters' Association of South Africa and the Rough Diamond Dealers' Association of South Africa constitute the membership of the Diamond Foundation of South Africa.

  2. DURATION OF ROUGH DIAMOND COURSE

    Full-time : 2 week course - full days, Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 15:00.

    Part-time : 2 week course - evenings, Monday to Thursday, 17:00 to 20:30 and Saturday 08:00 to 14:00

  4. COURSE FEE

    The course fee is R7,125.00 inclusive of VAT.

    Only a limited number of candidates can be accommodated.

    A Registration deposit of 50% is payable to secure the candidates place.

  5. GENERAL COURSE AIM

    To give the candidate a basic understanding of the characteristics and qualities of a rough diamond in relation to colour, carat, clarity and cut/shape, so that he/she can, with the necessary time, determination and diligence make meaningful decisions on rough diamonds.

  6. COURSE STRUCTURE

    1. Use of equipment.
    2. Identification of rough diamonds into:-
      • Colour
      • Cut/Shape
      • Carat Weight
      • Clarity

  7. CERTIFICATE

    A certificate will be awarded subject to the following criteria being met:

    1. Full payment of course fees
    2. A 90% attendance with satisfactory participation of all sessions and practical tasks/exercises in this course
    3. The instructor being satisfied that the student has made satisfactory progress worthy of recieving a certificate.The instructor's decision is final.

  8. APPLICATIONS

    1. Applications must be made well in advance because of the limited number of candidates that can be accommodated at any specific intake.
    2. Admission is solely at the schools discretion.
    3. Full fee must be paid before commencement of the course.
    4. Fees are not refundable after commencement of the course.

  9. EQUIPMENT

    All equipment for use during the course will be provided and remain the property of the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Training School.

  10. ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORT

    Candidates must have their own transport and accommodation.

  11. DISCIPLINE

    Candidates will be subject to the disciplinary code of the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Training School. Any candidate who is in breach of its code will be liable to suspension or expulsion without refund of fees paid.

  12. LANGUAGE

    The course is presented in English. Candidates must be able to understand and converse in this language.
