1. INTRODUCTION

    The Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Training School is a joint venture project of the Diamond Foundation of South Africa in partnership with De Beers. The Master Diamond Cutters Association and the Rough Diamond Dealers Association constitute the membership of the Diamond Foundation of South Africa.

  2. DURATION AND COMMENCEMENT OF DIAMOND POLISHING COURSE

    Full days, Monday to Friday 07:30 - 16:00.

    The Diamond Polishing Courses for 2010 will be run as follows:-

  3. COURSE FEES

    Candidates from SADC Member States : R26,875.00 inclusive of VAT.

    All other Foreign candidate fees US$5,250.00 inclusive of VAT.

    Only a limited number of candidates can be accommodated.

    A registration deposit of 50% is payable to secure the candidate's place.

    The balance of the course fee must be paid before or on the day the course begins. NO TERMS.

  4. GENERAL COURSE AIM

    The Diamond Training School has developed this course for a person who wants to:

    1. Prepare him / herself for a career in the Diamond Industry as a Diamond Polisher.
    2. Go into other fields in the Industry and wants to acquire a background in the manufacturing of gem diamonds.

  5. COURSE STRUCTURE

    The course is mainly practical and it is presented in a factory environment.

    Theory consists of background to the practical.

    Sketches of stones are drawn to analyse if the student has grasped the concept of the practical work to be performed.

  6. COURSE OUTLINE

    1. Correct handling of equipment.
    2. Crosswork.
    3. Eight sided and basic facets and/or Brillianteering.
    4. Polishing the final and finishing facets by sub dividing the eight sided facets.

  7. CERTIFICATION

    After successful completion of all required work, and examinations (that will include the polishing of a diamond with all it's facets) regular attendance of 95% and all fees and charges paid, the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Training School will award the candidate with a certificate.


  8. APPLICATIONS

    1. Applications must be made well in advance because of the limited number of candidates that can be accommodated at any specific intake.
    2. Admission is solely at the school's discretion.
    3. Full fee must be paid before commencement of the course.
    4. Fees are not refundable after commencement of the course.

  9. BURSARY CANDIDATES

    1. Information can be obtained at the school or by telephone.
    2. Candidates will be selected for bursaries on their performance.
    3. Registration takes place after all entrance requirements have been met.
    4. Candidates must have their own transport and accommodation.
    5. Candidates must be over 21 years of age.

  10. DISCIPLINE

    Candidates will be subject to the disciplinary code of the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Training School. Any candidate who is in breach of its code will be liable to suspension or expulsion without refund of fees paid.

  11. LANGUAGE

    The course is presented in English. Candidates must be able to understand and converse in this language.
